Cable Triceps Pushdown & Cable Biceps Curl

Cable Triceps Pushdown & Cable Biceps Curl

The Perfect Push-Pull Combination for Building Bigger, Stronger Arms.

Walk into almost any gym on arm day, and you’ll probably see two exercises performed more than any others.

The Cable Triceps Pushdown.

The Cable Biceps Curl.

One trains the muscles that extend your arms.

The other trains the muscles that flex them.

Together, they create one of the most effective combinations for building balanced, stronger, and more muscular arms.

While they may seem like simple isolation exercises, mastering these two movements teaches one of the most important principles in strength training:

Control creates growth.

Every Great Arm Workout Needs Balance

Many people spend too much time chasing bigger biceps.

But here’s the truth.

The triceps make up nearly two-thirds of your upper arm.

If your goal is complete arm development, you cannot neglect either muscle group.

Strong biceps improve pulling strength.

Strong triceps improve pressing strength.

Together, they create balanced upper-body development.

Cable Resistance Changes Everything

Unlike free weights, cables provide nearly constant tension throughout the movement.

That means your muscles remain under load from beginning to end.

There are no “resting” points.

This continuous tension improves:

✔ Mind-muscle connection

✔ Muscle endurance

✔ Joint control

✔ Muscle development

For many lifters, cables provide one of the safest and most effective ways to isolate the arms.

The Cable Triceps Pushdown

The Pushdown is one of the best exercises for isolating the triceps.

Its purpose is simple:

Straighten the elbow using nothing but your triceps.

Primary Muscle

✔ Triceps Brachii

Coaching Keys

Keep your elbows tucked close to your sides.

Avoid leaning your body over the weight.

Extend completely.

Pause.

Squeeze your triceps before slowly returning to the starting position.

Every repetition should finish with a powerful contraction.

The Cable Biceps Curl

The Cable Curl allows your biceps to remain under tension throughout the entire repetition.

Unlike a traditional barbell curl, the cable continuously challenges your muscles—even at the bottom of the movement.

Primary Muscle

✔ Biceps Brachii

Coaching Keys

Keep your elbows beside your body.

Avoid swinging.

Curl with your biceps—not your shoulders.

Pause at the top.

Lower the weight slowly while maintaining tension.

The lowering phase is just as important as the lifting phase.

Momentum Is the Enemy

One of the biggest mistakes people make on both exercises is trying to use too much weight.

The result?

Swinging.

Leaning.

Using body English.

Very little actual arm work.

Remember…

Your muscles don’t know how much weight is on the machine.

They only know how much tension they’re experiencing.

Choose control over ego.

Every time.

Full Range of Motion Wins

Half repetitions produce half results.

Allow your triceps to fully stretch before pressing down.

Allow your biceps to fully extend before curling.

Then finish every repetition with intention.

Complete range of motion develops stronger, healthier muscles while improving flexibility and joint function.

The Mind-Muscle Connection

Arm training is one of the best opportunities to improve your mind-muscle connection.

Don’t simply move the handle.

Feel the muscle shorten.

Feel it lengthen.

Imagine the muscle doing every ounce of the work.

That mental focus dramatically improves exercise quality.

Bigger Arms Come From Consistency

Most people overestimate what one workout can accomplish.

They underestimate what hundreds of quality workouts can accomplish.

One more repetition.

One more week.

One more month.

One more year.

Consistency transforms average physiques into exceptional ones.

Strong Arms Improve Everything

Your arms contribute to nearly every upper-body exercise.

Rows.

Pull-ups.

Bench Press.

Shoulder Press.

Deadlifts.

Farmer’s Carries.

Developing stronger biceps and triceps improves your performance far beyond arm day.

Strength carries over.

M.E.L.A. Says™

Your arms don’t grow because you move the weight. They grow because you make your muscles work through every inch of every repetition.

Coach’s Insight

One of the things I love about cable training is that it exposes shortcuts immediately.

If you’re swinging…

You’ll know it.

If you’re using momentum…

You’ll feel it.

The cable constantly reminds you to stay honest.

I’ve watched clients completely transform their arm development simply by slowing down, controlling every repetition, and focusing on muscle contraction instead of chasing heavier stacks.

Remember…

The machine isn’t your competition.

Your previous performance is.

Every workout is an opportunity to perform one better repetition than last time.

Master that mindset, and your arms—and every other muscle group—will continue to improve.

That’s the philosophy behind the Multibolic System™.
